As audience members, you not only get the chance to hear readings of promising new scripts, but you will also be able to help in the development process by participating in a short talkback (led by Squeaky Bike resident dramaturg Kathryn McConnell) and wine party. With your help, we’ll be able to get these shows ready for fully-staged productions.

Ladies & gents, we are down to our last five performances of Alligator Summer! 

Tonight (Tuesday, July 2) at 8 PM
Friday, July 5 at 8 PM
Saturday, July 6 at 3 PM and 8 PM
Sunday, July 7 at 3 PM

And then, sadly, our alligator summer becomes plain ol’ summer.

Now, we’re inclined to get the giggles at wildly inappropriate times, same as anyone else, so it comes as no surprise that this news from Williamsburg has us in stitches. 

A few days ago, New York Magazine ran an article about alligator limbs found in Brooklyn: “Real, Gross Alligator Limbs Found Scattered Around Williamsburg”

I mean, could the timing be any better? We thought not.

And then today, Gothamist took it one step further: “Is Someone Buying Alligator Arms and Scattering Them Around Williamsburg?”

“Given the locations of the limbs (peeking out from under a rock, reaching from inside a grate, etc.) we’re inclined to think this is part of an elaborate joke, and not the work of some vigilante alligator hunter keeping an alligator invasion at bay.”

First, we’d like to state for the record that we have nothing to do with this.

But we will use it to our advantage.

It’s NYC Pride weekend! Which, of course, means New York is in chaos. The best kind of chaos, though. Loads of EQUALITY to celebrate!

We’re so happy that we’re celebrating with a matinee. Really. A matinee. And YOU are invited. We’d love to have you here with us, basking in the cool air of the Abingdon Theater Complex, supporting indie theatre with 50 people you’ve never met. Glitter not required, but it’s certainly not not allowed.

AND THEN, to celebrate the Fourth of July (indepedence, hooray!) we have added two performances!

Monday, July 1 at 8 PM and Tuesday, July 2 at 8 PM.

It just wouldn’t be right for us to let the day go by without acknowledging the incredible step in equality we saw today.

It’s been a big week for Squeaky Bicycle and the cast and crew of Alligator Summer, but nothing tops the thrill that comes when we learn the rights of so many of our dear friends and family are now validated under federal law. Love is love, and we couldn’t be more excited.

“In this setting (a beautifully trashy set by Kathryn Lieber) it doesn’t take long to realize that beneath the dirty ply wood, many nasty family secrets lie. As these come to light, the final question becomes who will do the devouring: the gators or the people?

What’s also clear early on is that Dylan Lamb can write. From the first lines, you’re struck by the very unique way his characters talk, and how distinctive each of them are. In this talent, I don’t think comparisons to the Coen Brothers and Christopher Durang are out of place. Taking the writing even further is director Brandi Varnell’s efficient staging, and a fine cast, each of whom approaches their unique characters with an emotional truthfulness that’s rare in plays like this.”
