This amazing show pits playwright against playwright, actor against actor, and even friend against friend in the fight to show who has the guts to go for all the glory. It’ll be a night to remember, and you won’t want to miss it!

Have you heard the news? Squeaky Bicycle is turning seven years old! On July 16th, we are celebrating seven wonderful years of new ideas, experiences, and memories. Like most seven-year-olds, we want big things for our celebration—and we need your help to make that happen! Instead of inflating bouncy houses and hiring clowns (are clowns even popular anymore? It’s been a while…), we need you to help us with our super fast, super fun, super exciting birthday fundraising extravaganza! We are dusting off our streamers to unveil…(drumroll please)…the New Wheels campaign!

The New Wheels campaign is our one-week micro-fundraiser where we aim to meet (and hopefully exceed) our goal of raising $700. It’s a quick flash fundraiser—just a little jolt to get our 2017-2018 season going. All proceeds would go to support the upcoming season so we can continue bringing you unique productions well into our angsty teen years. Contributions of any size would be welcomed like a fresh slice of birthday cake!

The day has finally come for All Guts and Some Glory! Don’t you dare miss this raucous event! This unique scene competition is pay-what-you-will, and is sure to bring laughter and (maybe) tears. Come out for the greatest (we think!) compilation of original short plays in the greater New York area. Join us for cannons, trolls, volcanos, dogs, and debt! We need you to be our judges.

In just one week, you will have the once in a lifetime opportunity to witness history being made on the stage. The Velodrome Company’s “All Guts and Some Glory” is a unique scene competition where five local playwrights will gather in one place to compete for eternal glory (and a bar tab). This pay-what-you-will event is happening Monday, May 15th at 7pm at the Theater for the New City. Not only do we want you to witness this event, we NEED you to be the judge! The power to choose is in your hands. This event is one you simply can’t miss!

To further entice you, we would like to introduce you to your playwrights and their short plays.

First, back from his ever popular recent production of Dead Man’s Dinner, W.M. Akers will bring us Christmas in a Volcano. This unique play takes place in the heart of a dormant volcano, where a mad mechanic threatens to destroy a town in order to make a friend.

Second, we have returning playwright Emily Daly. Daly’s play, Spectacular, will explore what happens when the world’s First Lady Cannonballer goes rogue. Daly is ready for the competition with this explosive short play!

Third, we have Robert Zander Norman‘s Die in the Blast. This short play is about an apocalypse-loving young man who’s making some big decisions. Norman is also a returning playwright and, this time, he’s returning to win it all.

Fourth, we have Jeff Johnson in his Velodrome playwriting debut! Johnson will present his play, In the Red, which explores what pushing the limits can mean. Colin owes a lot of money, and he goes way out of his comfort zone. Try not to judge him too harshly, as he does what he must to escape literal and figurative debt.

Last, but not least, we have William Kozy‘s Riddle Me This. This is also Kozy’s Velodrome playwriting debut and he’s hoping to take home the gold (and the bar tab). His play centers around a young, loving couple touring Scotland, and the hilarity that ensues when they come upon an old, bridge-living troll.

Without further ado, we introduce your competitors!

In one corner, we have one of our resident playwrights, W.M. Akers! Akers is a top competitor, coming off of the recent production of his play, Dead Man’s Dinner, a clear audience favorite.
Will he be able to serve up some delicious dialogue to win over the crowd again this time?

In the other corner, we have returning playwrights Emily Daly and Robert Zander Norman! Both playwrights were featured in the Velodrome kickoff event, “The Unconventional Convention,” in the fall of 2016.
Will either playwright have what it takes to leave the crowd wanting more?

And in yet another corner, we have returning favorites Jeff Johnson and William Kozy! Both Squeaky Bike favorites as actors, this will be their playwriting debut with us!
Will either one be able to withstand the competition in their new role, and finish victorious?

In just three weeks and 13 performances, Dead Man’s Dinner made a huge impression. Now that you’ve warmed up and gotten some (ethically acceptable) meals in you, we wanted to reach out to thank you for joining us on this weird and wonderful journey. We loved every moment of producing this daring play, and we’re grateful so many of you were there to share in it.

There’s just one more kind of success we’re hoping to achieve, and to do so we need your help! As a young theatre company, we rely on the generosity of our supporters to raise the funds necessary to produce delicious work, full of “wit and humor, beautifully delivered,” like Dead Man’s Dinner.
